Spencer Proffer – Meteor17 – Music & Media Producer/Strategist

Spencer Proffer has been at the forefront of successful and inventive multi- platform media initiatives throughout his accomplished career. His extensive entertainment career has consistently broken new ground through his pioneering work on both creative and business fronts. As a marketing and media architect with an anchor in how music plays an organic role in various platforms, he has created and then implemented numerous initiatives on behalf of major television networks, advertising agencies, online organizations, record labels and motion picture companies. Proffer also has a meaningful history of producing socially conscious events and enterprises, which have both charitable as well as commercial components.

As a content creator/producer, Spencer has had a long history of connecting with and engaging audiences. His productions and those he has been integrally involved with have garnered Academy, Golden Globe, Emmy, Grammy and Tony awards and nominations, and as music producer his work has led to the sale of millions of gold and platinum records. Additionally Spencer has used his skills and career to make a meaningful difference by utilizing media, not only for commercial purposes but to have a positive, lasting impact for good across the world.

Proffer’s notable accomplishments date back to age 26 where he placed music icon Tina Turner into the feature adaptation of The Who’s Tommy. He then proceeded to produce and play guitar on the acclaimed Tina Turner classic album, Acid Queen.

Spencer has been honored for his work as a producer, arranger, songwriter and engineer on numerous occasions. His work with Stevie Wonder  for their collaboration in a title recording for New Line features Adventures of Pinocchio received a 1997 Grammy nomination.  He was the Music Director for HBO’s award winning, multi-cultural series, Happily Ever After and a stage producer as well as the cast album producer and mixer of the  4 time Tony nominated Broadway show ‘It Ain’t Nothin’ But The Blues” (cast album featuring BB King, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, Andrae Crouch Choir and Randy Jackson).  Spencer has also  worked with many other notable artists ranging from Heart, Cheap Trick, The Little River Band, B.B. King, Graham Nash, Kenny Loggins, Brian May (Queen), Quiet Riot, Hootie & The Blowfish.  He has also produced/executive produced 18 films and supervised and directed the music for over 110 features and television shows around the world.

Amongst the projects he is currently working on, Proffer is producing a Hallmark Thanksgiving Special on the power and inspiration of the #1 Grammy winning song, I HOPE YOU DANCE, featuring Maya Angelou, Joel Osteen, Graham Nash, Brian Wilson and Vince Gill as well as the authorized feature documentary on the reach of John Coltrane’s music and Coltrane himself, partnered with the estate, with original masters and support from Universal, Warner and Concord Music, who own the majority of Coltrane’s  career master recordings.
